Promise me we are not driving to Philadelphia to pick up stuff from fifteen years ago.

Girl Meets Pluto is the fourth episode in season 2 of Girl Meets World and the 25th episode overall. It aired on May 14, 2015 to 2.4 million viewers.

Cory, Topanga, Shawn, Riley and Maya travel to Philadelphia to dig up the time capsule that Cory, Shawn and Topanga buried 15 years ago, and in turn the teens decide to create and bury one of their own.

In class, Cory asks the students how they would want history to remember them. Riley reads the intro to the first chapter of the history book, which says that "history is fixed and cannot be changed, like the nine planets in the solar system". This prompts a reaction from Riley's friends and Cory, all of whom have been keeping a secret from Riley: that Pluto was demoted from its status as a planet. Further into the lesson, the discussion shifts to making a time capsule to be opened fifteen years in the future, causing Cory to remember the time capsule that he, Shawn, and Topanga had buried approximately fifteen years earlier in Mr. Feeny's back yard. Against Topanga's wishes, Cory is determined to drive back to Philadelphia to dig it up.

At Topanga's, the friends debate on what to put into their time capsule; Riley wants to put in an orange ball representing Pluto, Lucas wants to put in a buffalo nickel his grandfather gave him, and Farkle wants to put in his science fair trophy, but Maya has no interest to put in anything at all. Katy overhears the group's discussion and advises them to "Dream dreams," which Riley takes to heart.

Shawn rushes to the Matthews' apartment under the pretext that Cory was dying of a terminal illness. When Topanga tells him the truth about the time capsule in Philadelphia, Shawn fumes, having just arrived from Philadelphia. The three head to Topanga's to offer Riley and her friends to go on a road trip since Topanga wants to bow out; Riley and Maya accept. Shawn reunites with Katy and sparks begin to fly, until Cory brings up how Shawn and Angela were going to last forever, causing Katy to feel jealous on the inside and grill Shawn about her.

In Philadelphia, the group is having no luck finding the time capsule until Riley reveals that after an hour of digging, all she found was an "old metal box" --- which turns out to be the time capsule. The group is soon caught by Feeny, prompting Riley and Maya to perform their own rendition of the legendary Feeny Call. Mr. Feeny inquires from the two teens about Cory's parenting and teaching skills, and then has a short talk with the now-adult group of three, remarking how they are still together after all these years.

Back home, Cory, Topanga and Shawn go through the time capsule's contents. Cory pulls out the jean jacket he had given to Topanga when she first told him "I love you,"; remarkably, the jacket still fits. Topanga then pulls out a letter to Cory from Lauren, a girl who treated an injured Cory at the ski lodge and kissed him, and rips up the letter in front of him, causing Riley to theorize that this is why they never go skiing. Shawn takes out the belongings of Angela's purse (a book of sonnets, a CD of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons", a Jean Claude Van Damme movie ticket, and Angela's old lip gloss) and begins to reminisce about her.

Maya believes that Shawn will leave to get back together with Angela. Maya later laments this to Riley, who repeats Katy's advice to dream dreams and tells her that she still believes Pluto will always be a planet, just as Cory always believed that he and Topanga would be together.

As Shawn continues reminiscing about Angela, Riley storms into the kitchen and chastises him. In the bedroom, Riley tells Shawn that as she believes in Pluto's planetary status, he should keep believing in love, and that Shawn's "Pluto" is finding love with anybody at all. Maya then tells Shawn that she would just like him to be out there for her, and he tells her that he will.

The next day, Riley and her friends gather at Topanga's to fill their own time capsule. Lucas decides to put in his transfer slip as a reminder of when something good started. Farkle eschews his science fair trophy in favor of his orange turtleneck, so that he can see the something that he is in the future. Riley again puts in her Pluto ball as a reminder to never stop believing in things. Maya finally agrees to play along, but tells the others to wait outside so that they can be surprised by what she puts in. After Riley expresses her hope that things work out for Maya and leaves, Maya decides to put in the photograph from her birthday showing Katy and Shawn giving Maya her birthday cake, and quietly says that "hope is for suckers."

Later that night, Riley and Maya are still at Topanga's as Katy is closing up for the night, when Shawn enters. Shawn invites Katy to hang out for a few minutes, and asks her if she is ready for something different. Katy says yes, and nervously applies lip gloss. Riley and Maya observe as Katy and Shawn share an awkward but relaxing discussion together, and Maya tells Riley that science may one day reclassify Pluto as an official planet.

Shawn: Why am I here?
Maya: Shawn's going to get back together with his ex-girlfriend.
Riley: Dream dreams, Maya. You're gonna get everything you want in life.
Maya: Hope is for suckers.
Farkle: A buffalo nickel. That's what you're putting in the time capsule?
Lucas: Yeah, my grandfather gave it to me for- Anyway, my grandfather gave it to me.
Maya: No, no, no, no, no. For what? Pappy Joe gave it to you for what?
Riley: Don't call his grandfather Pappy Joe.
Lucas: It actually is Pappy Joe.
Riley: You know how they say Pluto isn't a planet any more?
Shawn: Yeah, I heard about that.
Riley: Doesn't that kill you?
Shawn: No.
Riley: Pluto's still out there for me.
Shawn: I don't care.
Cory: They want you to take the rolls!
Maya: She doesn't know because she has us.
Farkle: The Riley Committee.
Maya: The committee exists to keep certain information away from Riley.
Lucas: Like what?
Farkle: Everything really.
Riley: Come in, Uncle Shawn.
Shawn: How'd you know it was me?
Riley: My family doesn't knock. They're pigs.
Riley: Who's Lauren?
Topanga: Well, before we got married, your father met a girl at a ski lodge and she really liked him.
Maya: Matthews, you dog.
Riley: Is this why we never go skiing?
Cory: We want to see how time treated us. If we turned out like we hoped we would. You got any advice for us while we're all here together, Mr. Feeny?
Mr. Feeny: Well, yes. It's been a long time and you're still together. What else do you need to know?
Mr. Feeny: And that's what you were digging for?
Cory: It's our time capsule. Remember?
Mr. Feeny: I remember everything.
Mr. Feeny: Is he a good teacher?
Maya: I think he's the best there is. But he says you are.
Mr. Feeny: Ms. Matthews.
Topanga: How you doin'?
Mr. Feeny: Put back my flowers. Except for those. I'll attend to those myself.
Cory: Detention?
Mr. Feeny: Big boy detention.
Cory: I won't do well in big boy detention.
Mr. Feeny: Mr. Matthews, Mr. Hunter. We meet again.
Shawn: Cory, I'm concerned.
Cory: What? What's there to be concerned about, Shawnie?
Shawn: That.
Maya: You're supposed to be digging.
Riley: Oh, but I was digging for an hour, and all I found was this old metal box.
Shawn: Well, I was doing a story in Philadelphia until my friend here brought me to New York so we could go back to Philadelphia.
Topanga: Shawn, he's fine. Everybody's fine.
Shawn: No. He's not fine. He called me over here. Said it was a matter of life or death. He's not fine.
Shawn: No!
Cory: Oh, it's okay, Shawn. I bought the shovels myself.
Shawn: Cory, pay the money. Have the professionals dig.
Shawn: Topanga, you all right?
Topanga: Yeah, I'm fine, Shawn.
Shawn: Oh, then it's Cory. Oh my gosh, it's you. All right, what did the doctors say? How long does he have to live?
Topanga: Not long.
Shawn: All right, buddy. We are gonna do everything we ever dreamed of in whatever time you have left. We're gonna go to your favorite restaurant, we're gonna take all the rolls.
Cory: Listen, this committee can't protect her for the rest of her life. She's getting too smart.
Farkle: She's looking for a bird!
Cory: So today we're talking about Winston Churchill. When the new people come, how do you want them talking about you?
Riley: Nicely.
Cory: Shawn, why didn't you end up with Angela?
Shawn: She ended it and walked out on me. Time has taught me that's not good for a relationship.
Maya: Don't open it.
Riley: Yeah, wouldn't you rather believe your lives are perfect?
Cory: You make a good point, girls, you do. But here's another point. Have you even met me?
Mr. Feeny: Is he a good father, you poor, poor little girl?
Riley: I'm very lucky.
Cory: Come on Topanga, put some back in to it, will ya?
Katy: I was playing a waitress at the Nighthawk diner and now I'm playing a waitress here.
Maya: It's your real life!
Katy: It can't be.
Farkle: I'll go. I'll do anything with anybody.
Cory: No deal. There's not enough room in the car for you and all your words.
Topanga: Cory remembered the time capsule from high school. It's fifteen years, he wants to drive to Philadelphia to dig it up.
Shawn: Oh. Okay.
Cory: What you doing with that shovel, buddy?
Shawn: I was in Philadelphia!
Cory: I had to make sure you'd come.
Shawn: Nobody bye-bye?
Cory: Everybody whoop-de-woo.
Topanga: Please tell me you didn't drag Shawn into this.
Cory: I did not drag Shawn into this.
Topanga: Who's that?
Cory: I think you know.
Katy: Hey, nice trophy, the Farkle.
Farkle: Thanks, the Maya's mom.
Katy: Don't ever give up on your sheep-riding dreams. You go out there and you become the best sheep rider the world has ever seen.
Maya: Ma, what are ya doing?
Katy: As long as I'm here, I've decided to give out valuable life-living advice, like Cory and Topanga. So, you all come to me when you're feeling lost in this world, and I'm gonna fix you right up.
Riley: You knew that?
Maya: Well, it would have been anything I said.
Topanga: Promise me you are not coming back here with shovels.
Cory: I promise you I am not coming back here with shovels.
Topanga: We don't have shovels.
Cory: Well, where would one buy these shovels?
Topanga: The hardwarde store, if one was going to to buy shovels but one isn't.
Cory: Well, where would one find this "hardware" store if one was?
Topanga: Promise me we are not driving to Philadelphia to pick up stuff from fifteen years ago.
Cory: I promise. Where are the shovels for something else?
Maya: Honey.
Riley: Peaches.
Topanga: Give me a shovel. No reason. Give me a shovel and your head.
Cory: Road trip!
Topanga: Who wants to go instead of me?
Shawn: Ah, me and Angela. We were gonna be Cory and Topanga. Guess there can only be one Cory and Topanga. Still, me and Angela. Wonder what she's up to nowadays.
Maya: Nice shovel shirt.
Cory: They got plenty left.
Maya: I don't see how.

  • August Maturo (Auggie Matthews) does not appear in this episode.
  • Cory, Shawn and Topanga all claim to have been in high school 15 years earlier. However, they graduated from John Adams High School in Boy Meets World: Graduation in 1998, 17 years earlier. However, if it weren't for the two year timeskip that took place in between seasons 3 & 4 of Boy Meets World, Cory, Shawn and Topanga would have graduated high school in the year 2000.
  • This episode is Sabrina Carpenter's favorite.
  • Angela Moore is mentioned several times.
  • Scenes from Boy Meets World season 2 episodes "Cyrano", "Breaking Up Is Really, Really Hard to Do", and "On The Air" are used.
  • For the first of three times in GMW, the Feeny Call is performed (albeit by Riley and Maya); the call was created and often used by Eric in Boy Meets World, and is the only time in GMW that the call is performed in its entirety.
  • Third episode set outside NYC as the characters travel to Philadelphia.
  • Shawn was already in Philadelphia when Cory called him, to come to New York to go to Philadelphia.
    • Shawn also seemed to have threatened to hit Cory with a shovel because of this.
    • Topanga also seemed to have threatened Cory almost the same way, as she didn't want to go back to Philadelphia, just to dig up the time capsule.
  • First time in Season 2 where a main character doesn't appear.
  • Things that were in Cory, Shawn, and Topanga's time capsule:
    • Cory - His jean jacket when Topanga said she loved him for the first time (from the Boy Meets World episode, "What I Meant To Say").
    • Topanga - Lauren's love letter to Cory (from the Boy Meets World episode, "Heartbreak Cory"), which Topanga rips up in front of Cory.
    • Shawn - Angela's belongings he found in her purse (from the Boy Meets World episode "I Love You Donna Karan").
  • References from Girl Meets Flaws and Girl Meets Master Plan are made.
  • Shawn admits he thought that he and Angela would be like Cory and Topanga.
  • The line about taking the rolls is a reference to the dream sequence in BMW season 2 episode, "Breaking Up Is Really, Really Hard to Do".
  • Shawn says that when they buried the time capsule he thought that he would have someone to love when they opened it.
  • Things that the kids put in their time capsule:
    • Lucas - His transfer slip
    • Farkle - His favorite turtleneck sweater
    • Riley - Orange ball of Pluto
    • Maya - Picture of her, her mom, and Shawn from her 14th birthday
  • The question of who took the photograph of Shawn with the Harts is a bit of a mystery, as at that point in Girl Meets Master Plan, when the candles were lit, Riley and her parents were in front of Maya. This implies the unseen presence of Farkle, Lucas, or even Auggie in the final moments of that scene.
  • At the end of the episode, Shawn and Katy have a special moment together meaning that they started having feelings for each other.
  • The Riley Committee- Maya, Cory and Farkle.
  • At the end, it is shown that Maya wants Shawn to be her father figure.
  • Riley decides to discard the kids' original time capsule and instead reuse the original one from her parents and Shawn.
  • Lucas and Farkle did not meet Feeny in this episode.
  • During the filming of this episode:
    • Peyton Meyer celebrated his 16th birthday.
    • Bonnie Bartlett, the wife of William Daniels, was present for the taping of his scene.
    • The entire cast and Rider Strong also shot their brief appearance for the Disney Channel Happy New Year 2015 commercial.
  • This episode aired in the U.S. on May 14, 2015, exactly 2 months before New Horizons' arrival and closest encounter with Pluto, on July 14, 2015.
